    Get PDF

    Use-cases on evolution

This report presents a set of use cases for evolution and reactivity for data in the Web and Semantic Web. This set is organized around three different case study scenarios, each of them is related to one of the three different areas of application within Rewerse. Namely, the scenarios are: “The Rewerse Information System and Portal”, closely related to the work of A3 – Personalised Information Systems; “Organizing Travels”, that may be related to the work of A1 – Events, Time, and Locations; “Updates and evolution in bioinformatics data sources” related to the work of A2 – Towards a Bioinformatics Web

    Use-cases on reactivity

Since reactivity and evolution are tightly connected, use cases containing both aspects were collected in a single document, I5-D2, instead of compiling them in separate documents

This deliverable presents a set of possible scenarios in which personalization plays a fundamental role in the Semantic Web. These scenarios have been collected with the contribution of many partners of the working group A3, and have then been analysed with two aims. First of all, we have identified the key concepts of personalization scenarios, and subsequently we have analysed the currently available tools and languages supplied by the (Semantic) Web in order to define a set of requirements to be passed to the other working groups of the network.European Commissionpeer-reviewe

Three red suns in the sky: A transiting, terrestrial planet in a triple M-dwarf system at 6.9 pc

    Get PDF
We present the discovery from Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) data of LTT 1445Ab. At a distance of 6.9 pc, it is the second nearest transiting exoplanet system found to date, and the closest one known for which the primary is an M dwarf. The host stellar system consists of three mid-to-late M dwarfs in a hierarchical configuration, which are blended in one TESS pixel. We use MEarth data and results from the Science Processing Operations Center data validation report to determine that the planet transits the primary star in the system. The planet has a radius of 1.38−0.12+0.13{1.38}_{-0.12}^{+0.13} R⊕{R}_{\oplus }, an orbital period of 5.35882−0.00031+0.00030{5.35882}_{-0.00031}^{+0.00030} days, and an equilibrium temperature of 433−27+28{433}_{-27}^{+28} K. With radial velocities from the High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher, we place a 3σ upper mass limit of 8.4 M⊕{M}_{\oplus } on the planet. LTT 1445Ab provides one of the best opportunities to date for the spectroscopic study of the atmosphere of a terrestrial world. We also present a detailed characterization of the host stellar system. We use high-resolution spectroscopy and imaging to rule out the presence of any other close stellar or brown dwarf companions. Nineteen years of photometric monitoring of A and BC indicate a moderate amount of variability, in agreement with that observed in the TESS light-curve data. We derive a preliminary astrometric orbit for the BC pair that reveals an edge-on and eccentric configuration. The presence of a transiting planet in this system hints that the entire system may be co-planar, implying that the system may have formed from the early fragmentation of an individual protostellar core.Accepted manuscrip

This report provides an overview of the achievements of working group A3 for bringing personalization functionality to the Semantic Web. It continues the work started in the deliverable A3-D1 and A3-D4. In the deliverable at hand, we report on a successfully held workshop on Semantic Web Personalization at the 3rd European Semantic Web Conference, and the research results on techniques and algorithms for enabling personalization in the Semantic Web, and achievements on developing suitable architectures for the personalized information systems in the Semantic Web.peer-reviewe

Dopamine Modulates Persistent Synaptic Activity and Enhances the Signal-to-Noise Ratio in the Prefrontal Cortex

    Get PDF
The importance of dopamine (DA) for prefrontal cortical (PFC) cognitive functions is widely recognized, but its mechanisms of action remain controversial. DA is thought to increase signal gain in active networks according to an inverted U dose-response curve, and these effects may depend on both tonic and phasic release of DA from midbrain ventral tegmental area (VTA) neurons. We used patch-clamp recordings in organotypic co-cultures of the PFC, hippocampus and VTA to study DA modulation of spontaneous network activity in the form of Up-states and signals in the form of synchronous EPSP trains. These cultures possessed a tonic DA level and stimulation of the VTA evoked DA transients within the PFC. The addition of high (≄1 ”M) concentrations of exogenous DA to the cultures reduced Up-states and diminished excitatory synaptic inputs (EPSPs) evoked during the Down-state. Increasing endogenous DA via bath application of cocaine also reduced Up-states. Lower concentrations of exogenous DA (0.1 ”M) had no effect on the up-state itself, but they selectively increased the efficiency of a train of EPSPs to evoke spikes during the Up-state. When the background DA was eliminated by depleting DA with reserpine and alpha-methyl-p-tyrosine, or by preparing corticolimbic co-cultures without the VTA slice, Up-states could be enhanced by low concentrations (0.1–1 ”M) of DA that had no effect in the VTA containing cultures. Finally, in spite of the concentration-dependent effects on Up-states, exogenous DA at all but the lowest concentrations increased intracellular current-pulse evoked firing in all cultures underlining the complexity of DA's effects in an active network.Taken together, these data show concentration-dependent effects of DA on global PFC network activity and they demonstrate a mechanism through which optimal levels of DA can modulate signal gain to support cognitive functioning

TOI-1259Ab – a gas giant planet with 2.7 per cent deep transits and a bound white dwarf companion

    Get PDF
We present TOI-1259Ab, a 1.0RJup gas giant planet transiting a 0.71R⊙ K-dwarf on a 3.48 d orbit. The system also contains a bound white dwarf companion TOI-1259B with a projected distance of ∌1600 au from the planet host. Transits are observed in nine TESS sectors and are 2.7 per cent deep – among the deepest known – making TOI-1259Ab a promising target for atmospheric characterization. Our follow-up radial velocity measurements indicate a variability of semiamplitude K=71 m s−1K=71\, \rm m\, s^{-1}, implying a planet mass of 0.44MJup. By fitting the spectral energy distribution of the white dwarf, we derive a total age of 4.08−0.53+1.214.08^{+1.21}_{-0.53} Gyr for the system. The K dwarf’s light curve reveals rotational variability with a period of 28 d, which implies a gyrochronology age broadly consistent with the white dwarf’s total age

This paper describes our idea for realizing personalized e-Learning in the Semantic Web. We have developed a framework for designing, implementing and maintaining Personal Learning Object Readers, which enable the learners to study Learning Objects in an embedding, personalized context. We describe the architecture of our Personal Reader framework, and discuss the possible authoring processes for creating Personal Learning Object Readers
